Jerry’s philosophy of shotgun skills takes a different path from most instructors, who are limited by commercial constraints to offer lessons in hour long or other short sessions. The key to good shooting lies in moving cognitive thought into sub-conscious reaction, and even a series of one hour lessons tends to provide quick fixes within the session, but insufficient repetition to overlay correct new automatic responses over poor shooting styles that shooters may have picked up from self-learning or non-developing styles of instruction. For this reason, lessons are only provided on a whole day basis. The principal is that a shooter experiencing Jerry’s lesson style will leave at the end of the day with the ability to be self-analytical, and with a firm base for further self-learning.

Many shooters find they have plateaued at a moderate level of score and cannot progress. This is usually because there is insufficient understanding of the underlying method of shooting and because the shooters have never explored and defined their existing skill base, or developed into new and additional methods of shooting.

As a Senior Coach (Jerry was the full-time training and safety manager at Bisley, in charge of all CPSA training, between 2001 and 2007), Jerry was instrumental in defining current CPSA courses and instruction. His training platform provides lesson plans to suit both novices wanting a firm base to shooting methods, as well as providing advanced skills for shooters up to national competition standards in English Sporting, Trap and Skeet disciplines.

Lessons plans are available for experienced shooters who wish to improve in a specific discipline including Sporting Clays, Game Warm Up, Trap (ABT or DTL) and Skeet. Jerry helps experienced shooters master more advanced techniques, as well as assisting with style development and teaching analysis methods to support your learning and increase break ratios. As part of every lesson Jerry will provide advice on gun fitting, gun mount and master-eye solutions.
