Once home to the largest deer park in Yorkshire, Risby was owned by the Ellerker family from the 14th to 18th centuries and even hosted Henry VIII. Sadly, the original manor house was destroyed twice by fire and was never rebuilt.
Terry has managed the Risby shoot single-handedly for over 50 years and is now joined by Ben and Anna. Your hosts in the field will be Steve and Anna, who will ensure your safety and enjoyment while keeping glasses topped up and food circulating throughout the day. We aim to maintain a relaxed and friendly atmosphere for everyone’s enjoyment, with Terry and Ben on hand throughout the day to check in.
Expect a mixed show of partridges and pheasants, depending on the drives and the wind, to keep most guns on their toes.
We meet for coffee around 9:00 a.m., set off about 9:30, and break for elevenses after a couple of drives. A few more drives follow before finishing with a buffet lunch. Hot and cold drinks are available throughout the day, and we make sure no one goes thirsty. Breakfast can also be arranged if requested by the team.
All our food is supplied by local butcher and delicatessen and is served either in the field or in the shoot hut, depending on the drives and the weather.
